Introducing the Northern Periphery and Arctic 2014-2020 Programme

What is it about?

The Northern Periphery Programme 2007-2013 is entering its final phase. The time has come to reveal the rich tapestry that 7 years of good cooperation have woven into the communities of Northern Europe in the NPP area. On this foundation, a new Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme is being prepared for a new round of fruitful cooperation and mutual enrichment.

The conference will be a chance to introduce the important novelties expected for the next period. A stronger focus on results and impacts, a different intervention approach looking for projects that will make a change and cooperation themes based on EU2020 strategy are some of the new aspects that have been prepared so far.

As part of the preparatory work for the 2014-2020 period, a consultation process will be launched consisting of a pre-event survey and a workshop during the conference. Conference attendants will be asked to contribute to the design of the programme expressing how the proposed thematic objectives, investment priorities, specific objectives with the indicated actions supported can be operationalised in a transnational setting. Participants can also provide a feedback on whether the identified objectives are relevant to ensure a contribution to the results sought by the programme.

Through a participative format, participants will be asked to answer questions such as:

-  Can the identified objectives be translated into actions, products and services? Or are changes needed to the proposals in the draft Operational Programme?

-  What additional actions are necessary to allow projects to concretely contribute to the achievement of the programme results?

-  Are the output indicators reflecting the potential impact of the projects?

Who is the target group?

Experienced project partners, thematic experts, public administrators, NPP program staff, entrepreneurs, researchers and other important actors of the Northern Periphery community active in the fields of

-  Research, technological development and innovation

-  SMEs competitiveness

-  Low-carbon economy in all sectors

-  Environment protection and resource efficiency

-  Gender equality and non-discrimination

…will gather together in Skellefteå to prepare the future.

The conference will start with a welcome dinner on 18th September.

On 19th September, the morning plenary session will feature presentations by programme body representatives and Ex Ante evaluators to introduce the new programme. In addition, there will be a presentation about the Arctic Dimension of the new programme.
