The REMOTE project will increase and support local capacities in renewable energy solutions across the NPP area. By building on the results of NPP Renewable Energy Cluster projects and networks, the REMOTE will establish an unique International Network of Best Practise Demonstration Sites, and integrate it to a Training for Trainers Service. The sustaining network will support the capacity development of remote communities by providing technology demonstrations, business model examples, training, peer-to-peer support, and community mentoring. The REMOTE will also stimulate investments on new demonstration sites, encourage their inclusion to the network, and support technology and knowledge transfer activities. Furthermore, in REMOTE, renewable energy tourism in northern periphery region will be developed and promoted. Building on the demonstration site network, project will establish a service “NPP Renewable Energy Tours”. This will include renewable energy demonstrations, training, innovative mobile guide applications for smart phones, and cultural programmes, for instance. The unique transnational service menu will have options for industry, decision-makers, community groups etc. Overall, REMOTE will strenghten and solidify the contacts of peripheral communities; it will support the long-term sustainability of the NPP products and services promoted within earlier NPP projects and REMOTE.

The REMOTE projects aims to provide feasible renewable energy solutions in remote areas adapted to the scale of sparsely populated areas and communities by providing information, products and services that are accessible to similarly structured communities. Within the project it is aimed to build social capital and expertise by developing training, demonstration site and study tour network for renewable energy solutions. The project will promote the utilization of local renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels in remote communities. REMOTE will give information of how to combine different sources of renewable energy such as wind, solar and biomass. Provided information will offer alternatives for existing energy solutions and gives options to home owners, communities, tourism operators, entrepreneurs and advisory personell in the rural areas. The project aims at energy solutions following all dimensions of sustainability

The project REMOTE will establish one product and two services of renewable energy solutions in rural areas of Northern Periphery region. Product and services will be tailored and promoted widely in order to help implementation of renewable energy plans and business activities.
Product I
Demonstration site network
Online Information and Support Package of various renewable energy solutions adapted for remote areas based on Renewable Energy Demonstration site network. Case studies of successful proven community renewable energy systems and solutions and existing demonstration sites will be carried out, including detailed analyses from the perspective of sustainable enterprises, tourism, education and business models.
Service I
Capacity building & training
The REMOTE capacity will contain data, information, partnership and training modules. Links will be formed between REMOTE and existing training & education facilities and partnerships in the NPP area. The design of the Training for Trainers concept will allow for flexible and easy access and participation to the Trainings.
Service II
Study tour concept
A NPP renewable energy tour concept will be populated that will form the basis of the service. The service will contain data obtained from the other sources. The design of the concept will allow for flexible and easy access to the information contained. Study tour concept will combine renewable energy demonstration and tourism.
The REMOTE network consists of partners across the NPP area including renewable energy demonstration sites covering the key renewable energy solutions.
