This project aims to help preserve a range of traditional crafts and use the survival of these crafts to show young people that it is possible to create new, viable employment in rural areas. The work will be done via showcasing the crafts in a structured museum-like setting, illustrating the history of the craft, where the craft is carried out on the premises, for business, not for show, and where it is possible to purchase the products made on the premises. The concept is already well tried and proven to work in the Canadian Province of Quebec. The plan is to create eight of these Economusee in the partner regions and to spend the project period supporting and developing the relevant business skills for the participating businesses and developing a support and marketing network for the group of European Economuseums.
The pre-project is aimed at developing the joint grant application for the Interreg Northern Periphery Project, by drawing together the relevant expertise from each of the very experienced business development partners, testing their institutional preparedness for transnational projects and ensuring that all participants have a thorough understanding of the project’s aim, objectives and outcomes.
