The project idea relates to business development: “Incorporating topics and ideas surrounding innovation and innovation systems, entrepreneurship models and service provision with a business development perspective”.
The project focuses on diversifying traditional rural economies both at strategic and operational levels by a) identifying new innovative business opportunities in target areas in partner countries; b) transnationally benchmarking the innovation and SME support systems/networks and developing the methods and models to encourage new rural businesses; c) developing marketing initiatives to assist rural business development and promote local product networks; d) by integrated and participatory approach involving both R&D innovation system, public sector, SMEs and local villagers in the project; e) by pilot actions.
An innovative, integrated and participatory approach involving universities, regional and municipal government, business enterprises, R&D organisations, and local inhabitants will be implemented throughout the project. Transnational benchmarking will be an essential part of the project. The best practices and solutions developed during the project will be collected and disseminated for use in other areas and future projects in the Northern Periphery area.
