The basic project idea is to find out the most important factors for running sustainable and competitive retail shops in rural areas for the mutual benefit of the businesses and the inhabitants. This knowledge will be used as a base for providing individuals, businesses and local authorities with services such as consultations, training and education. Examples of different types of companies that will be examined are multiservice shops, franchising operations, co-op, discount stores, convenient stores etc. Also the focus will be on electronic-commerce, comparison of different logistics systems, regional subventions and other important factors for the local shops to survive. The result will show what business formats are the most effective ones and thereby create knowledge for the services to be provided by the partners of the project.
