The SMALLEST project will develop a pioneering service which offers small scale practical Renewable Energy Source (RES) options to communities for whom RES solutions are thought to be uneconomic, too difficult technologically, or too difficult in practice. The service will be achieved by using an innovative analytical tool in an applied context, made possible by the transnational cooperation of all the partners.
The objective of the SMALLEST project is to spread the sustainable, economic use of RES solutions to remote rural communities, thereby reducing their dependence on finite fossil fuels, reducing the cost of their energy use, and thus improving their access to heat and light by making it more affordable and less polluting. The success of this project will create a new service, or process, that can be introduced throughout the Northern Periphery’s rural regions, to the benefit of all communities in the region, no matter how small or isolated.
